Jared Emerson-Johnson

I make music for video games.

Hi there. I'm Jared Emerson-Johnson. For the past decade or so I've been the music man at Bay Area Sound—writing music, creating sound design, directing voiceover and acting in all sorts of games and occasionally in other media.

You may know me from my scores to the Sam & Max series from Telltale Games, or perhaps you have found yourself here because of my more recent work on The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Tales From the Borderlands, and/or Game of Thrones (also from Telltale).

Regardless of what brought you here, welcome! I hope I can provide you with whatever you're looking for.

The Vault: "Quiet On The Set"

"Situation: Comedy" was the second of Telltale's Sam & Max episode offerings, and "Quiet on the Set" was the main new piece for the episode.

Featuring a thick vibraphone part and stacks of instrumental improvisation, this piece was one of the first to loosen up the sound of my Sam & Max scores. It extended the sound of that universe into a bit more of an "off the page," organic feeling—something that was developed quite a bit more in seasons 2 and 3.

I had actually forgotten a lot of the details about this piece until I dug it up yesterday. It was great to hear—with fresh ears—the wild improvisational outbursts from the three main instrumental soloists: Jordan Wardlaw on saxophones, Jesse Wickman on drums, and the late/great/one-of-a-kind Michael Whitwell on the trumpet parts.
